All this time I have been wondering “how did Joe Exotic go to jail, what did he do?” I mean all the exotic animal owners seem off their rocker, but what was the reason. Well this episode reveals the lead up to Joe’s arrest and the action of his arrest. Joe was embezzling money from the company to pay for his presidential campaigns, but that wasn’t all! Jeff Lowe met with James Garretson to discuss taking Joe down and Jeff said he had a lot of dirt on Joe. It followed that, James rung up Carol Baskin, but she past the call onto the FBI where they made a deal with James that if he brought information forward about Joe, he would not be affected.
The information was about a plot to kill Carol! I know Joe has constantly spoken about how he can’t stand the ‘bitch’ and going as far to shoot blow up dolls of her on his online TV show, but to actually plot to kill her is going to the extreme. However, unless there had been money exchanged between Joe and the killer then the FBI could not arrest him, so James brought in an undercover FBI Agent to pose as an assign to get Joe to give him money, but Joe didn’t. After hearing from James about working for the FBI, Jeff said he wanted to help to and said that there was money exchanged between Joe and Alan to kill Carol. I question the truth of this information, because as far as we have seen Jeff is an incredibly sly con man and if Joe didn’t give a professional assassin (FBI Agent) money to kill Carol, why would he give it to Carol. However, the FBI took this information anyway and arrested Joe.
I think it is amazing how I have been so intrigued and side-tracked by the characters and the story that I didn’t really care until this point how or why Joe was in prison, because the series has been so entertaining. Now the big plot line has been revealed and there is only 1 more episode left it is amazing how they have managed to engaged me and reveal more characters and information to build up a bigger picture as the series has progressed.
What we Learnt:
· Joe has had to bail Jeff out from prison multiple times
· Jeff got violent with his first wife while he was seeing Lauren (his now wife but mistress at the time)
· Jeff also got caught taking tiger cubs into hotels rooms in Vegas and got arrest there
· Jeff owned a home in Vegas where he kept cubs and the police game in took them as well as semi-automatic firearms
· Jeff was to surrender his animals to be let out of jail
· Jeff said Joe blocked him from the zoo account so went to the bank to get statements but was told by the cashier that joe was being investigated by federal officers who looked at his statements
· Joe forges Jeffs name on cheques
· Joe embezzled money for his campaign out of the zoo showing the company not making profit
· Jeff said to joe he was being investigated and then he started going wrong
· Joe got kicked off the park and he burnt all the evidence
· Joe went to the zoo to package the animals and sell them
· Jeff said to joe if he came back onto the park, he would shoot him
· The doc crew go back to the park to speak to Jeff, but joe doesn’t like it
· They have a hidden camera and go filming members of the park, but they don’t recognise the crew?
· Hearsay is that Joe tried to hire someone to kill Carol
· Joe, Jeff and James they were discussing how to kill Carol
· All this conspiracy around the federal agents investigating joe came to light than Jeff paid James to ring Carol and tell her information to get joe sent to prison
· Carol forwarded the call to the wildlife who rung James up and said he was in it deep too
· James signed up to be a confidential informant of Jeff and joe
· James sold a stolen hummer to one of Joe’s staff
· Carol got a call from FBI in 2017 as joe was plotting to kill carol and warned her
· Alan was drinking and doing cocaine and he was employed to kill carol but fled
· Alan went to strip clubs instead of going to kill carol and they thought the plot stopped
· James then got a FBI agent to go undercover and told joe this person would kill carol
· The FBI could not arrest joe unless there was money exchanged along with the calls and texts saying about killing
· Although there were messages from joe to the uncover agent about killing carol, how to do it and payment, Joe never came through with getting the money or guns
· After Jeffs time in Vegas and the trouble he got into James told Jeff he was undercover and investigating into Joe
· Jeff said he would be an informant too and give the feds what they needed to take Joe down
· Jeff said that there was money exchanged between joe and Alan to kill carol
· Jeff tried to get Alan on the phone and admit the exchange of money and he said he got given $3,000 to kill carol
· The federal agents didn’t know the information about the exchange of money until 2018
· Joe has moved from his place in Oklahoma and put ups posts of social media saying he was in Belize in Mexico
· Joe was arrested in a parking lot for attempting to kill carol
· Jeff is going to build a new zoo in Texas within 6 months
· Alan told the feds what happened about the money so that he didn’t end up in prison
· Joe said he was framed and that there is more to the story!!!
