Snowpiercer Episode 1 - RECAP 💎💎💎

Updated: May 29, 2020

(May Contain Spoilers)

Netflix recommends series for me to watch so it was no surprise that Snowpiercer was suggested to me as I love high end drama’s and occasionally programmes with a Sci-Fi twist. Snowpiercer is set in a dystopian world where the world over heated and to cool it down scientists messed with temperature and froze the planet to the core. In comes Wilford industries and the Snowpiercer train, which was designed to give all the rich people a seat on the train and live not freezing to death outside. However, other people found out about this train and became stowaways and were trapped at the end of the train, now called the ‘Tail’.

What We Learnt:

  • The world froze over

  • The Snowpiercer train was designed to track around the globe and keep people save inside

  • The Snowpiercer was designed for rich people who brought ticketed seats

  • Normal people stormed the gates and managed to get onto the tail end of the train

  • The normal people were trapped at the end carriages of the train, now referred to as the tail

  • Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) is the hostess of the Snowpiercer who belongs to Mr Wilford

  • An uprising begins to manifest in the Tail which is headed by Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs)

  • Other tailer’s want to revolt that night because the train keep giving them less rations

  • Layton says that isn’t a good idea and that they need someone on the higher end of the train to help the tailer’s navigate the train

  • Miles (Jaylin Fletcher) is a young boy whose mum was thrown off the train at the start and he has been adopted by Layton, taken under his wing

  • Miles ambition is to become an apprentice up train by helping with the engineering

  • Layton is then plucked from the tail and asked to investigate a murder of a working member whose limbs have been cut off

  • This is because Layton, back in the day, was a homicide detective and the only one on the train

  • Layton tries to barter with Cavill to say that the Tail will be able to go into third class in the train

  • Ivan (Mark Margolis), Lyaton’s friend in the tail hangs himself with a phone charger

  • In Layton’s absence the tailies decide to revolt, however few get killed and the don’t get very far

  • One young girl tries to open up the next carriage but is stopped

  • Layton comes down to talk to them and they think he is a traitor however he whispers to them to say they he is getting to know all the ins and outs of the train

  • Layton manages to negotiate with Cavill to make the three men who caused the rucus to go into prison, which on the train means putting them to sleep.

  • Cavill at the end of the episode goes into the driver’s seat of the train with a university sweatshirt on, unlike the tight-fitting blue dress and heels she wears during the day

  • Bennett (Iddo Goldberg) the train driver gives over the controls to Cavill and remarks there you go “Mr. Wilford”. Therefore, revealing that she is indeed Mr Wilford.

I wasn’t holy invested into this episode until the end. After seeing the trailer on Netflix I did think I’d know what it was all about but then seeing that it is more about a murder on the train that causes ‘Mr.Wilford’ and Layton a tailer to interact was an added element I didn’t see coming. I do love murder mysteries and with the added twist at the end I do hope that there are more coming our way. I didn’t realise that there had also been a film made called Snowpiercer (2013), so I might check that one out too.

Streaming now on Netflix.
