Killing Eve - Episode 1 RECAP 💎💎💎

(May Contain Spoilers)

ITS BACK! I was so excited to have Killing Eve back on our screens and for series three! Series 2 left off with Villanelle (Jodie Comer) shooting Eve (Sandra Oh) and leaving her for dead, so I think all of the audience were excited to know that wasn’t the last of their story and how Eve comes back to life! I adore this series and after attending a Q&A with the cinematographers from series 3, I understand where their colour palettes and vision come from, which I will share with you all soon!

This episode saw Villanelle marry a woman, completely random opening as always with Villanelle doing what she wants, but the wedding day soon turns to chaos when Eve notices Dasha (Harriet Walter), her old trainer, from her past. Dasha tries to get Villanelle back into the killing business, but Villanelle wants to become a keeper, which is a high up position in the organisation of ‘The 12’. Eve is also alive, but there wasn’t any big, this is how, just she is alive and now miserable working at a Chinese restaurant. Kenny (Sean Delaney) who used to work on the Villanelle operation with Eve still looks into the 12 although MI6 have dropped the investigation and gets killed.

What We Learnt:

  • Dasha is a Russian gymnastic champion

  • Villanelle marries a woman

  • Paul (Steve Pemberton) turns up to Villanelles wedding day and they fight

  • Paul comes in to oversee Carolyn’s (Fiona Shaw) investigation

  • Carolyn has a meeting with Diane (Maria McErlane) who talks about all of the unauthorised things she has done

  • Eve is alive but doesn’t say how, she is just food shopping

  • Dasha trained Villanelle and tries to get her back in the game as she wants to go back to Russia

  • Dasha makes a deal with Villanelle to try and get her to become a keeper

  • Eve is now working in a kitchen at a Chinese restaurant

  • Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) gets a parcel saying ‘let’s go fishing’ on a Chinese restaurant

  • Kenny goes to Eve’s apartment after she drunk text him

  • Tourists found Eve and took her to the hospital

  • MI6 shut down the investigation into the 12, but Kenny have been looking into them

  • Villanelle kills a woman who owns a family business shop, imitating the kill at the beginning by Dasha

  • Eve visits her husband, Niko (Owen McDonnell) , in a facility but don’t know if it is rehab or a mental institution

  • Kenny goes into work to continue googling the 12, but someone else is there

  • Eve goes to Kenny’s work and sees he gets pushed off from the roof

I am so happy that Killing Eve is back, however felt that this episode lacked drive. I felt the beginning was great to see Villanelle living her life again, making irrational decisions and there were moments of the typical Killing Eve humour that we all know and love, however the action felt absent. There were three kills, which was great and reintroducing us to the concept of The 12 and getting us up to speed as we have come in a few months or years later and not picking up straight from where series 2 left. I don’t know whether it was because Eve was so forlorn in this episode and it brought down some of the energy in the arch, but one thing is for sure I am loving having them both back on our screens and cannot wait to watch Villanelle find out that Eve is alive and where that will take the series!
