It was announced yesterday that ITV2 had made the decision not to go ahead airing Love Island this year. However, ITV2 commissioner has said that they have green lit three more productions and hope to get those made in replacement.
The decision to cancel the summer series of the show came when they bosses decided that the cast and crew would not be safe due to COVID 19.
Kevin Lygo, Director of Television at ITV has said: “"We are very sorry for fans of the show but making it safely is our prime concern and Love Island will be back stronger than ever in 2021.”
Perhaps this break from Love Island might see some more viewers when it comes to launch the 2021 series.
