Race Across the World (2019) REVIEW - 💎 💎 💎 💎

(May Contain Spoilers)

I WAS HOOKED!!! I watched episode one and that was it and I managed to binge watch the whole series in one afternoon/evening! The concept for me is similar to HUNTED (2015-), so if you liked that then you will LOVE this series. There are five teams of two and they are challenged with racing one another across the world to a destination, but they cannot fly so have to travel by road. The first series starts off in the UK and the couples have to travel to Singapore, the furthest city from UK by road.

I was surprised how each episode they managed to keep it entertaining, because each episode the couple try to make their way to a check point, which is a place where they have to stop and then they are then told the next check point stop moving on. There are five checkpoints in total on the way to Singapore. Additionally, the winning couple who reach the final destination first wins £20,000!! That’s incentive, but the couples also gain so much more, the culture and seeing/doing things that are new to them and experiencing the world. This series has the perfect balance between competitiveness and relaxness, the couples explore the towns and place but also try to get to the next place. Oh, I almost forgot they have their phones and wallet taken away so they only have a world map, cash given to them (the same amount a direct flight would cost) and local guides.

Being in lockdown this programme couldn’t have come at a better time to watch, feeling that sense of wanderlust, I was dreaming about travel all night! Throughout the series you start to get closer to the travelling couples also because you see them through thick and thin, rich and poor, which adds a great sense of jeopardy to the series. Finally, during the second stop one of the couples who checked in last would be cut from the race, however this cutting couples out stopped and I think they could have done one more so that it would have been a clear first, second and third but then it just made the producers look mean for sending one couple home and the rest continue the race. I think one more eliminated would have added more drama. I won’t reveal who won, however they were the couple I least wanted to win!

A great binge-watch that will give you serious wanderlust vibes. Already on binging series 2! A great situation to explore travelling, but also the human condition in a situation where no one has a real advance especially without the help of modern technologies. Showing us how to really travel! Exciting, dramatic and inspiring.
