Child's Play (2019) REVIEW 💎💎

(May Contain Spoilers)

A gruesome tale about a robotic killer toy, Chucky (voiced by Mark Hamill)! Sometimes you come across a good horror, but unfortunately this just wasn't one, I has high hopes of this film from the trailer and Aubrey Plaza (who I love!) but was disappointed. It was comical and the CGI was in ways so real it felt fake, but it is safe to say that Chucky Doll is still creepy!

Kaslan Corporation have just launched the Buddi doll, a great best-friend for any young kid, they can also connect and control all your Kaslan products too, what could be better?! We witness a worker in a Vietnam sweatshop deliberately remove some filters from the Buddi doll and later get thrown out the window. Karen (Aubrey Plaza) is a single mom working as a cashier at a toy store when a Buddi toy gets returned because of its malfunctions, Karen takes the opportunity to take the Buddi home as an early birthday gift for her son, Andy (Gabriel Bateman). Andy, who is hard of hearing, finds it difficult to make friends after their new move and so unwraps Buddi who becomes his friend. Buddi insists on being called Chucky and frequently glitches, despite this Andy decides to keep him, which lands him new friends in his neighbourhood because of Chucky's potty-mouth.

Whilst playing Andy is scratched by his cat, which enrages Chucky as the cat hurt his best-friend, later Chucky's devotion is shown by murdering the cat. Later Andy walks in on his mum and her new, toxic boyfriend Shane (David Lewis) who he hates, Chucky takes this as a hint and follows Shane home to his wife who he has been cheating on. Whilst taking down some Christmas decorations Shane falls breaking both of his legs, Chucky pounces and stabs him whilst a rotavator rips his face off. Andy wakes up to see Shanes face on his chest of drawers displayed as a souvenir. Andy attempts to get rid of the evidence against, but when Karen catches him, he spins the lie that it is a present for Doreen (Carlease Burke) who lives down the hall. In the meantime, Andy calls on the help of his new friends and they terminate Chucky. Despite their best attempts to destroy Chucky a creeping, perverted caretaker finds the doll in the rubbish and decides to revive him, although probably wishes he didn't when Chucky comes back to life kills him.

Kaslan have now launched their third type of Buddi and during an instore launch where Karen works,

Chucky takes revenge on Andy, who is in stores helping his mum. His friends come to his rescue with chainsaws and nailed baseball bats, but Chucky with his ability to control other Kaslan products creates havoc by turning other Buddi's evil and attacking the public. Finally, Chucky takes Karen hostage luring Andy out to kill, however obviously the cop we all thought was dead had some spare energy to shoot the doll resulting in its termination. The final image on the Buddi packages with beaming red eyes indicates the battle is not yet over and has just begun.

The deaths were funny because they were so unrealistic! Yes, Chucky is spooky, however the rest of the film fell flat. I liked that Chucky wasn't just a possessed doll and there was more behind the mechanics of his malfunction, however it made whatever moves Chucky did predictable. Creepy, Gruesome and Humorous.

Available now on Netflix.
