47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019) REVIEW - 💎💎

(May Contain Spoilers)

When I first started watching this film I thought it was 47 Meters Down (2017), however it was ‘uncaged’ and I didn’t know any better until I started watching it, but thought I should stick with it…I was wrong. I should have turn off the TV and watched something else more meaningful and worthwhile. This film is a major flop and here is why…

The plot is thin, the film is basically great white shark’s attacks girls underwater, after they go cave diving which they are inexperienced to do. Apart from one, Mia (Sophie Nélisse), whose dad is a professional deep-sea diver and is exploring these caves in Mexico for his job. Mia, her stepsister Nicole (Sistine Stallone) – also Sylvester Stallone’s daughter! – and some of Nicole’s friends think it is a great idea to go and find a little cove in Mexico and when they discover that there is diving gear and part of the caves that Mia’s dad is working on, they decide to check inside the cave. Nicole and Mia were supposed to go on a boat to see great white sharks be fed but decided to skip that because a high school bully was also on the trip.

During the diving expedition the girls find a fish but get scared and knock back the statues in the cave so that the dust comes up from the floor and is hard to see. This is where our great white first makes its appearance, however the shark has been trapped in these caves so has gone blind or has night vision, one of the two. The rest of the film sees these girls try to escape the caves but fail as they try to escape the multiple great whites that they come into contact with, as well as the current pulling them down. Additionally, some of Mia’s dad working partners get eaten by the sharks whilst trying to save the girls. Mia’s dad hear the cries and comes to the rescue by showing the girls a pull cord which leads to the surface to safety. However, Nicole’s friend, Catherine (Brec Bassinger), tries to pull herself up the rope along with the other friend Alexa (Brianne Tju) and as the weight cant hold them both it snaps, oh yes, and the sharks made their way to them so they get eaten and killed along with Mia’s dad. Finally, the last two standing is Mia and Nicole and they escape, however it is into a pool of blood, which is from the boat trip about feeding the great whites that they should have been on, therefore they are in the middle of the shark’s food and try to get eaten but they save one another and are rescued.

I did like the suspense of this film, because anything underwater makes me hold my breathe along with the actors. I thought that the sharks attacks could have been changed up a little bit, but Alexa’s death was so shocking and scary. I did like the twist that the boat trip Nicole and Mia were supposed to attend was the boat that rescues them. However, the two ending shark attacks would have killed them being gripping in a great whites jaws, but instead they weren’t ripped apart and came out with a few scars. Additionally, Mia didn’t grieve too much over her dad and Catherine was a dick! I thought the film was a waste of time and would not recommend watching it. Dull, emotionless and boring.

Available now on Netflix.
